Slingshot is an ongoing program whose rules, rewards, and features are iteratively enhanced. This meant a focus on shifting requirements, consistent new feature development and extension, and a focus on observability.

Competition
The Slingshot application began as an MVP that presented the state of a competition or race: Slingshot was part of a larger initiative called the Space Race, where participants were encouraged to store data on the Filecoin chain faster than others, with the winners in each phase receiving a reward.
Following initial success, Slingshot grew into more than just a dashboard that presents on-chain data. It became an application with a deep stack: on-chain reporting services, a rich database of content, scripts that would periodically process and transform data, and a frontend interface for end-users to interact with it all.
Discovery + Growth
On the surface, the frontend application itself had a wide-spanning collection of features that grew over time. This included user authentication, document editing and processing in markdown, admin management functionality, detailed forms and an interface that was capable of displaying and searching through millions of records of data, each of which represented a deal on the Filecoin chain.
With this quantity of data and changing program requirements, it also became important to track what was happening at scale. We used Grafana to develop observability dashboards that captured the state of the program at any given time, reading from both on-chain data and information that was specific to the Slingshot application. We put a lot of care into accounting for edge cases and ensuring that the numbers being tracked weren’t just as accurate as possible, but visualized in the most intuitive way possible.
